Help Cure Autism with Cell Growth

A better understanding cell growth that is abnormal found for the development of autistic children can lead to potential treatments for those with the condition. The Molecular Psychiatry published a journal demonstrating this study how researchers created an encouraged pluripotent stem cell. This was done with the skin samples collected from the patients who has autism and had a 23 percent quicker than normal growth on their brains when they were toddlers.

The stem cells were motivated to develop into neuron precursor cells and were then compared to comparable stem cells that were developed from people who did not have autism. The healthy cells displayed a normal amount of activity while the cells from the patients with autism behaved abnormally with a decreased amount of activity.

Researchers then added IGF-1 and the activity of the cells improved. IGF-1 is a growth enhancing protein which is known to enhance the connections between the neurons.
The future of this type of research is expected to focus solely on how the IGF-1 works and what causes connections between the neurons. The impact of what this type of therapy will do for people who has autism will also be studied.

The technology used will assist with generating views on neuron development that have previously been inflexible. The possibility of using the stem cell method to uncover the biology of autism and screen for new treatments is exciting researchers.
