The Laboratory of Cell Growth Team
Normal living cells grow at a fairly consistent rate. But what happens to cells that are missing a part of the pathway for growth? Likewise, what is the cause of cells proliferating too rapidly, as in cancer? These are just a few of the questions the team of the Lab of Cell Growth is examining. By understanding the pathways and signaling that occurs in cells during the cell cycle, the team can give insight to diseases such as osteoporosis (lack of osteoblast growth) and cancer (proliferation of cancer cells). Under the direction of Dr. Millie Hughes-Fulford, an astronaut on the SLS-1, the team is also researching the effects of space on the immune system.
